Travel Journal / It Remains Asleep A While Longer

I write these words, share these images with the graceful sounds of Ichiko Aoba in my ears. A fortuitous discovery, thanks to Spotify. It’s appropriate as I attempt to distill some of the sights & sounds of Tokyo.

Growing up, I had always been fascinated by the megacity (I even applied and was accepted to the East Asian Studies program at McGill University, nearly fifteen years). And then, over time, somehow, my desire faded. I don’t know why. Life happens, I suppose.

In February, I got to go spend four days in a city that had fascinated me from afar. From my home base at the Mustard Hotel in Shibuya, I walked and explored, alone - as I like to do - and captured some images of a city that I now feel I must return to - partly because many things were closed due to the looming threat of COVID. I will be sharing a few different series over the next few days/weeks, but for now -

Let’s begin at dawn, together, roam the still-asleep streets, quietly.
